Christian was born in Germany in 1977, where his artistic talent soon came to light. His incredibly strong desire to draw and to capture what he visually perceived earned him many school rewards and he won many national and international competitions. At the age of 21 Christian began to travel the world, with a sketch book, a pencil a backpack and a camera. His dream was to see and draw the most exotic animals on land and especially those living in the ocean. To do that, he realized he needed to capture their appearance and beauty for visual reference for photo realistic drawing.

Soon Christian became a professional diver (PADI IDC Staff Instructor) and bought his very first underwater camera in 2002. Living and working in the most diverse and spectacular dive regions of the world, such as the Caribbean, Indonesia and Far North Australia, Christian studied marine animals and their behavioral patterns. With thousands of dive he learnt the ins and outs of underwater photography in different light conditions, and became involved in various marine conservation activities and expeditions.

In 2008, Christian joined famous Explorer Mike Horn as part of his crew sailing around the world to inspire youth and repair the damage done to our planet within numerous conservation projects in several third-world countries. When he returned to Australia, he helped to build the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre, which rescues and rehabilitates sick and injured sea turtles along the coast of Far North Queensland and remains one of the directors.

In recent years, Christian has been filming and photographing for BBC, National Geographic, Red Bull, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and many other national and international initiatives and organizations. He is on the Board of the Not-for-profit Çairns Underwater Film Festival and Judge of the Great Barrier Reef Film & Photo Competition, the only Film festival in the world that gives 100% of its proceeds to  important environmental projects.

Christian is also part of the Tangaroa Blue Foundation, Australian Marine Debris Initiative and 'Parley For the Oceans' as Ambassador and to create vital media and imagery on projects all around the globe. Recently he teamed  up with Biopixel & Emmy Award Winning Filmmaker Richard Fitzpatrick to shoot Nature Documentary, with specialised 6K and super slow motion Cameras such as the upcoming IMAX movie on the Great Barrier Reef.

And if that's not enough, Christian is also part of the Ocean Alliance "Snot Bot" team, changing the way we research whales ... without them even knowing.
